Frequently Asked Questions

We try to anticipate questions you might have about our PROGRAM and provide the answers here. If you need additional information fill out and submit the contact form.
1.

Do we accept financial aid?

We do not accept financial aid such as federal loans and grants at this time. To asssit our students in making the payment process easier, we provide a payment plan where the tuition can be paid in eight installments with a 5% interest rate. Some students choose to pay in full. We accept cash, checks, money orders, and credit cards. Partial scholarships are awarded to one student per class. Details will be provided when applicants enroll.

Do we have accreditation?

Not at this time. We are licensed by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy and possess a certificate to operate by the Virginia Department of Education. Not having accredidation does not mean our program lacks in any area. Our program is recognized in the Hampton Roads area by all pharmacies. No accredidation means that we are not elligible to receive state, federal , or military funding.

How do I become a certified pharmacy technician?

Beginning in 2007 the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam will be offered exclusively in a Computer-Based Testing (CBT) format.  In 2007 the examination will be offered in four (4) five (5) week-long periods during the calendar year.  These periods of testing are called Testing Windows. The cost for the examination is $129. The Virginia Board of Pharmacy offers a test for those who are staying in VA. The cost of this test is $65 and may be taken at a local test center throughout the week.  All technicians working in the State of VA must be registered through the VA Board of Pharmacy after seeking certification.

How much is the tuition?

Payment in full is $1,200.  If you choose to pay by installments, the total cost is $1,260.  The usual installments are eight (8) payments of $160.00 every two weeks with final payment of $140.00; the first installment is due one week prior to the beginning of class.  Other fees include the application fee, $50 and is non-refundable. Cost covers the cost of a lab jacket and name tag.


5.  Are books included in the tuition?

 No, text books cost approximately $145 and are purchased through the school.  Also needed is a drug  reference book purchased by the student.

How do I qualify for the program?

Schedule an appointment at our center and provide proof of a high school diploma or equivalency.


7.

How are the classes offered?

Classes are offered two days/nights per week or just one day a week in Norfolk. The Norfolk classes are Mondays and Wednesdays 9:00 am to 12:30 pm or 5:45 to 9:15 pm.  We also offer a Friday class from 9:00 to 2:00 pm. The Hampton classes are offered one day/night per week. The day class is on Thursdays from 9:00 to 2:00 pm and the evening class is on Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.


8.

What will I learn in the program?

Some of the content the students learn are: drugs, pharmacy math, pharmacy law, medical terminology, abbreviations, customer service, different pharmacy sites and dispensing medications.

Norfolk- January 4, 2008 - May 28, 2008  (Friday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm)

Norfolk- February 4, 2008 - June 10, 2008 (Mon & Wed: days 9:00 am- 12:30 pm and evenings 5:45 pm - 9:15 pm) 

Norfolk- May 16, 2008 - October 14, 2008(Friday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm) 

Norfolk- June 2, 2008- September 30, 2008(Mon & Wed: days 9:00 am- 12:30 pm and evenings 5:45 pm - 9:15 pm) 

Hampton - March 13, 2008 - August 5, 2008 (Thursday: days 9:00 am - 2:00 pm and evenings 5:45 pm - 10:00 pm)

HamptonJuly 24, 2008 - December 16, 2008 (Thursday: days 9:00 am- 2:00 pm and evenings 5:45 pm - 10:00 pm )

10.

What is the class size?

Average class size is about 8-12 students.


11.

Do I have to be certified to work in a pharmacy?

Not as long as you are in an approved training program such as ours and working towards becoming a certified pharmacy technician. You have nine months to become certified.
